and/ or submit the specimen with the schedule as follows:
Mon to Fri: 12:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. Sat: 12:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
Collection of Semen
  • Avoid seminal ejaculation (discharge of semen) for at least 48 hours, but not more than 7 days, prior to semen collection.
  • Specimen should preferably be collected first ejaculation in the morning, after resting overnight.
  • Wash and dry your hands and genital organ.
  • Collect as much of the specimen as possible into a clean and dry container. Write down the name and time of collection on the container. Avoid touching container to prevent contamination.
  • It is important to keep the specimen warm while transporting the container to the laboratory. Keeping the specimen close to the body in a coat pocket if necessary
  • Upon delivery to the laboratory (with the requisition form) within one hour, inform laboratory staff that the specimen is for semen analysis, for immediate processing.
